North Admiral (also called the Admiral District) is the oldest neighborhood in West Seattle. In the early 1900s it was connected to Seattle by paddle-steamer ferry and a cable car line. Its charming, pedestrian-friendly streets are fully enjoyed by strollers, joggers, bikers and dog-walkers. North Admiral is a mix of new construction and stately old homes. While not as grand as Queen Anne Hill or North Capitol Hill, this closely-knit neighborhood lays claim to the most dramatic views of the city. Hamilton Viewpoint Park, perched directly above Alki Point, offers gorgeous vistas of the skyline, Puget Sound, and sunrises over the Cascades. The viewing spot at the bend in Admiral Way boasts stunning views eastward to downtown Seattle and the Cascade Mountains, and is a popular firework viewing spot. It also features an authentic totem pole, erected in 1966. Just over the bluff on Harbor Avenue Southwest is Seacrest Park, the landing and departure point for the West Seattle Water Taxi to downtown. Other unofficial viewpoints are located throughout the neighborhood.
